Edward Davis

A former Creighton man facing two felony charges in connection with the death of his 4-month-old baby declined having a preliminary hearing in Knox County Court on Thursday morning.

Edward Stephan Davis, 29, has been charged with child abuse resulting in death, a class 1B felony, and manslaughter, a class 2A felony. His court-appointed attorney Rod Smith told Judge Donna Farrell Taylor that his client would like to waive his hearing and the judge bound the case over to Knox County District Court on Jan. 25.

His bond will remain set at 10 percent of $500,000, and Davis was remanded back to the custody of the Knox County sheriff.

The charges are the result of an investigation by Creighton Police Chief Mark Duncan into the death of infant Ender Lee Davis on Jan. 13, 2021, in cooperation with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Avera Creighton Hospital and the Douglas County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy eventually determined the cause of death to be “blunt force injury of the head, neck and torso.”
