Quilt Queen Brogie takes top honors

Ellen Brogie once again takes top quilt-making honors at the Knox County Fair, with her “Bob and Weave” quilt, her third best-of-show award in open class division. She started the quilt at a Gudrun Erla workshop in Yankton, and spent about a month completing it. Elra is a quilting instructor from Minnesota. Brogie has also exhibited two reserve championship quilts at the fair in previous years. The retired Creighton school teacher learned to sew in a high school clothing construction class and started quilting in 2004, when she took a class taught by Becky Kauffman at the Creighton Public Library. She said she has lost track of how many quilts she has made, “Just like so many quilters, we sew for our church and other missions.”
