Roberta Marie (Hengstler) Urwiller

Roberta Marie (Hengstler) Urwiller (85) of Broomfield passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 after battling Covid-19 for three weeks.

Born December 23, 1934 to A.W. and Dollie (Page) Hengstler.  She grew up in Creighton, Nebraska.  Her parents owned and operated the funeral home in Creighton (Hengstler’s Chapel) as well as the furniture and floor covering store and ambulance service. Roberta graduated from Creighton High School in 1952.  She then attended the University of Nebraska (Omaha) and received her nursing degree in 1956.  While studying at the University, she met Richard Urwiller over an operating table, and they married in 1956.  They were married for 42 years.  Together, they moved to Detroit Michigan where Roberta became a nurse in the operating room at Wayne County Hospital. In 1959, Roberta had her first child, Richard Jr.  In 1961, she and the family moved to Denver where she focused her attention on raising the children.

Two more sons, Jeff (1963) and Steve (1971) were born.  It was about this time that Roberta went back to school (Emily Griffith 0pportunity School) and studied Interior Decorating.  She loved to decorate and used this passion to remodel several areas inside Denver First Church of the Nazarene as well as Richard’s medical office.  She also helped her children and many friends decorate their homes.

Roberta loved working with her hands to create things.  She loved to sew and made much of her own clothing until she developed rheumatoid arthritis. In her pursuit of excellence to create things of beauty, she then turned to card stamping and jewelry making.  Everything she created was perfectly color coordinated and evidenced her passion for decorating.

Roberta loved to give financially to help train men and women going into the pastorate or missions work.  Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior, inspired her to sacrificially give to many Christian organizations: Nazarene Theological Seminary, Samaritan’s Purse, Dayspring Christian Academy, The Evangelical Free Church of Eaton and its supported missionary efforts.  For many years she donated her time to Denver First Church of the Nazarene.  She loved Jesus!

She is survived by her three sons: Richard (Shelley) Urwiller Jr., Jeffery (Kelly) Urwiller, and Steven Urwiller, and 4 grandchildren…Ricky, Ryan, Joshua (Ashley) and Caleb.

Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, A.W. and Dollie (Page) Hengstler; and brother, Bill Hengstler.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Friday, June 5, 2020 at the Brockhaus Funeral Home, 824 Main Street in Creighton, Nebraska.  A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1st at the Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton.
