Alvin Pavelka was born on January 2, 1924, to Charles B. and Emma (Dufek) Pavelka at rural Verdigre, and passed away on August 16, 2021, at the age of 97. He attended District 51 Country School and later graduated from Verdigre High School in 1941.
Alvin married the love of his life and lifelong dancing partner, Janet Vonasek, daughter of Ben and Wilma Vonasek, on June 26, 1956. They had seven children, David, Patricia (who was stillborn), Emy, James, Kay, John, and Patrick.
Alvin and Janet brought their children up on the family farm and raised them to know the value of hard work and also to appreciate humor and humility. They were very involved in their children’s lives, and later their grandchildren’s lives, with school activities, especially sports. The milk cows learned to be very flexible, so that everyone could make it to the games on time.
In his earlier years, Alvin enjoyed bowling and was competitive in boxing. He was good on a horse and was considered a cowboy by his family during the many cattle roundups and cattle drives. Everyone who met him will never forget his contagious laugh.
Alvin and Janet enjoyed listening to, but especially dancing to, polka music his entire life, right up to the moment when he couldn’t dance anymore. Dancing and listening to music were two of his favorite pastimes.
Alvin was preceded in death by daughters, Kay and Patricia; brothers, Clarence (MaryAnn), Marvin (Delores), and Elmer; sister, Emily (Rick) Bolin; sister-in-law, Ruth (Denny) Vonasek Farnik; and brother-in-law, David Vonasek.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; sisters, Clara and Helen; children, David (Terri) Pavelka, Emy (Gary) Jones, James Pavelka, son-in-law, Roger (Kay) Rudloff, John Pavelka, and Pat (Stacy) Pavelka; grandchildren, Robyn (Greg) Frank, Adam (Alison) Pavelka, Amber (Joel) Hurst, Heather (Shawn) Pearson, Michael (Courtney) Jones, Garrett (Lizzy) Jones, Jesse (Elizabeth) Rudloff, Samantha (Dale) Fanning, and Elizabeth Pavelka; and 19 great-grandchildren.
