Charles died Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at Avera Creighton Hospital.

Charles M. Brandt, son of John and Florence (Cool) Brandt, was born Sept. 21, 1938, at Creighton. He attended local country school and Creighton Public Schools. On April 28, 1962, Charles was united in marriage to Marcella Nipp. They were the parents of three children, Jacqueline, Stacey and Steven.

Charles and Marcella lived in Stanton and Creighton throughout his lifetime. He worked as a farm hand and was employed as a supervisor at Farmer’s Union Co-op in Stanton for over 25 years. He later worked as a truck driver for Land O’ Lakes in Battle Creek for over five years. Charles and Marcella moved to Creighton in 1998.

Charles was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church. He enjoyed working with his hands to build unique pieces of art using wood and iron. Charles loved dancing to polka and country music and was an avid western movie connoisseur. Most of all, he enjoyed people, especially his family and friends, telling a good story and making them laugh. Charles was passionate about all he did, especially if it was outdoors or building. Voluntarily, he used his skill and expertise as a landscaper and groundskeeper at the Millerboro Cemetery for more than 20 years.

Charles is survived by his wife, Marcella of Creighton; children, Jacqueline Lee Brandt and husband, Brian Grossman of 29 Palms, Calif., Stacey Brachle of Stanton and Steven Brandt of Creighton; grandchildren, Camille (Matt) Sackville, Jarred VanMeveren, Katherine (John) Haberstroh, Emily (Russ) VanMeveren and Richard Brachle; great-grandchildren, Icis, Mia, Jayan, Parker, Charlie, Russell J. “RJ’, Trajan and Tobias; and siblings, Barbara (Joseph) Boubin of Clarkson, Doris (Elmer) Sedivy of Walthill, Betty (Don) Hinrichs of Creighton, Joan (LeRoy) Hansen of Clearwater and Jim (Lois) Brandt of Elbert, Colo.
