Grace M. Meikle, daughter of Gustave and Margaret (Scott) Wulffert, was born July 21, 1929, in New York. Grace died peacefully in her sleep on July 1, 2021. Grace was a graduate of the Newburgh Free Academy and worked as a New York State licensed general insurance agent.
Grace was united in marriage with William K. Meikle on May 6, 1962, at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, New York. Grace traveled the world with Bill as a military wife, while he was stationed in Germany, Japan, and lastly at McChord Air Force Base in Washington. Bill and Grace continued to make their home in Washington after his retirement from the Air Force in 1973. They purchased an acreage near Puyallup, Washington where she lived until after Bill’s passing in 2016. Grace then moved to Lakewood into a smaller home she could manage on her own.
Grace was a strong, spirited woman. She and Bill enjoyed a beautiful life, fishing and crabbing at Puget Sound, and attending plays together at a local theatre on Friday evenings. While Bill tended to the acreage, Grace volunteered at the Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis, in Tacoma, working with children in the Craniofacial Clinic. Grace was also extremely dedicated to attending exercise classes at the YMCA at least three times per week, even into her late 80’s.
