Creighton’s Maycee Zimmerer went to the hoop at Ponca for 33 points in Saturday’s opening game of the Lewis and Clark Activity Conference Tournament at Ponca.
Zimmerer’s authority at the basket led the Lady Bulldogs to a 55-29 win over the Queen Bees from Bloomfield.
Creighton gained the upper hand early in the game, leading 32-10 at the half, and holding the Bees to three single-digit quarters.
Bloomfield attempted a short-lived comeback in the third quarter, putting 16 points on the board, but Creighton made 12 and went on to hold Bloomfield to three points in the finale, while hitting the target for 11 of their own.
The Lady Bulldogs advance to face the Ponca girls in a second-round game Tuesday in Laurel. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m.
Ponca claimed a 50-23 win over Osmond on Saturday.
In Saturday conference games at Randolph, Wakefield-Allen defeated Emersen-Hubbard and Randolph defeated Plainview. WA will face Randolph in the second game Tuesday at Laurel.
Hartington-Newcastle claimed a win over Walthill and Homer defeated Winside to advance to second-round games at Wynot on Tuesday.
Consolation games will be played at Plainview and Ponca.
The boys begin tournament play Monday in the second game of the night at Laurel, taking on the host Bears.
Clarissa Becker scored six points to help the Lady Bulldog cause Saturday, while Ashtyn Fritz and Christen Curtis each found the hoop for five points. Charlize Wilmes made four and Jessica Stevens, two.
Zimmerer also stole three balls and grabbed six rebounds. Stevens and Fritz grabbed nine and seven rebounds, respectively, while Stevens, Wilmes and Brenna Fanta each stole two balls.
