State golf

The Nebraska School Activities Association Class D State Golf Championship at Lake Maloney Golf course in North Platte was cut short due to weather.

Rain across the state on May 21 forced NSAA officials to cancel the first day of the 36-hole competition.

The Bulldog golfers took to the course on May 22 to play 18-holes.

After nine holes, the team was tied with Mullen in third place. West Holt was leading the course, followed by North Platte St. Patrick’s.

At the end of the windy, cloud-covered day, Creighton held on to third place with 370.

West Holt took championship honors with 355 and St. Patrick’s was runner-up with 356.

The individual champion was Jeremy McMillian-Peters of Paxton with a score of 75 and the runner-up was Ryan Weiss of Franklin with a 77.

The top four Bulldog scores were included in the team score.

Creighton’s lone senior, Bryce Zimmerer, played his last round of golf as a Bulldog. He earned a medal in a three-way tie for 12th place, with an 86.

Braxton Brockhaus placed 15th in a four-way tie, with an 87. Conner  Hammer was part of a nine-way tie for 21st place, with a 90. Brennan Pint shot a 107 and Tyler Wagner carded 113.

Over the course of the season, Bulldog golfers earned several high honors. The team was District D3 champion, Lewis and Clark Activities Conference champion, Plainview Invite champion and Creighton Invite champion.

Individually, Brockhaus earned medalist honors at three meets.

Zimmerer earned medalist honors at one meet and runner-up honors at one.
