Santee

It was a wild ending to a historic season.

No. 7 Santee looked poised to upset No. 2 Shelton as they stormed back in the second half to take the lead in the opening round of the Class D2 boys state basketball tourney at Devaney on Thursday.

With seven seconds left in the game, a controversial technical foul was called — on what Warrior coach Waylon LaPlante called "a flop" by a Bulldog defender — before Santee could inbound the ball.

Shelton free throws quickly turned Santee's 68-67 lead into a 72-68 loss, ending the Warriors first-ever trip to state in dramatic fashion.
